	St. Maximilian Kolbe Maximilian joined the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor Conventual and his ordination to the priesthood followed in 1918. He later founded the Militia of the Immaculata which published a monthly magazine. For his writings, Maximilian was incarcerated at Auschwitz and martyred when he voluntarily took the place of a condemned prisoner.
