Narrative: John and his brother James were Galilean fishermen chosen by Christ to be His disciples. Originally a follower of John the Baptist, John became one of the more prominent of the twelve disciples and was known as “the disciple whom Jesus loved.”
John is well known for being sent with Peter to prepare for the Last Supper and for being the only disciple to stay with Mary at the foot of the cross. Again with Peter, he was the among the first of the disciples to appear at Christ’s tomb after getting word of His resurrection and later, was one of seven to first recognize the Risen Christ. It is believed that much later John traveled to Ephesus and wrote his Gospel.
