Narrative: For many centuries, Christians have cherished and emulated the Holy Family. From the annunciation by the angel Gabriel to Mary that she was to give birth to a son, to the finding of Jesus in the Temple by his earthly parents, the Christian scriptures paint for us a meaningful picture of the tender and devoted relationship between Jesus, Mary and Joseph as well as their love and sacrifice for others.

In this icon, the Christ child is at the center with Mary and Joseph lovingly at his sides. Jesus outstretches his arms in welcome and glory, while his mother gestures the way to her son and Joseph offers a guiding hand of fatherly support.
