Narrative: This icon depicts St. Michael the Archangel as Ambassador of Paradise. He is also known as warrior, protector and healer. He is often invoked against Satan and evil spirits.
There have been numerous appearances of St. Michael over the centuries aside from biblical references. Two apparition sites noted for many miracles are the Michaelion church near Constantinople and the grotto of St. Michael on Mount Gargano in Italy. A sanctuary built in France following visions of St. Michael given to St. Aubert in A.D. 708 became the site of the great Benedictine Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel.
St. Michael is considered patron of police officers, paratroopers, grocers, bankers and the dying. He is called upon in perils, especially at sea and is considered champion of justice and righteousness.
